B&B’s Favorite New Releases featuring Dro Kenji, Wakai and more (6/16)

Our favorite new releases of last Friday (6/16) features new music from Dro Kenji, Wakai, Asha Imuno and Yueku and Abby Holiday.

Dro Kenji – OVER & OVER

Dro Kenji thinks about his ex in his new song “OVER & OVER”. In this melodic hip-hop ballad, Dro Kenji misses his ex and hopes she hasn’t gotten over him just yet. “I just hope you never throw my heart away / Yeah, I know you be havin’ your fun / I just hope you never throw my sh*t away / Protect my soul because it’s all I got.” Dro Kenji’s vulnerable reverbed vocals on the guitar-driven instrumental makes this song a hit. Listen to this song when you’re missing your ex-partner; or whenever you feel emo. Dro Kenji’s “OVER & OVER” features catchy and relatable lyrics; we’ll have this on repeat for a while.

Wakai – Frustrated

Wakai is frustrated because he’s not making enough money in his new song, “Frustrated”. In this hip-hop song, Wakai raps about his strive and hustle in life. “Frustrated / Underpaid, not outdated / Lacking bucks baby / Need payment, not outdated / Since we frustrated / 180 my life crazy, what I fight daily / Make me mortal.” Wakai’s powerful flows over the lo-fi instrumental makes this song a banger. The beat and flow switch in the outro is smooth and groovy. Listen to this song when you’re frustrated for words of wisdom. Wakai’s “Frustrated,” tells a story about his daily frustrations in a unique way.

Asha Imuno – PUSHING BUTTONS

Asha Imuno releases his first single of the year, “PUSHING BUTTONS”. In this hybrid R&B rap song, Asha sings and raps about his manipulative partner. “How you phone me / Early this morning / To say that your heart was frozen, numbing you slowly / My conscience knocking like the police.” Asha’s soulful melodies and cold rhymes on the intricate instrumental make this song stand out. Listen to this song when you get away from a toxic ex or friend or on a rainy day for the ultimate gloomy vibes. Asha Imuno’s “PUSHING BUTTONS” is a work of art, and we’ll keep pushing the replay button.

Yueku – One Sided (feat. Abby Holiday)

Yueku collaborates with Abby Holiday on his song “One Sided”. In this pop song, Yueku and Abby sing about a relationship that’s becoming one-sided due to a lack of interest from their partner. “I don’t mind giving you more time / But maybe it’s the start of the end of a chapter / Do you even care about what comes after?” Yueku and Abby’s voices mesh well together, and their harmonies are mesmerizing over the upbeat pop instrumental. While the instrumental sounds up-beat and happy, the lyrics are sad; but we love the contrast. Yueku and Abby Holiday’s “One Sided” is your new blue summer anthem.
